Ultrasound Therapy

Therapeutic sound waves that warm deep tissue to ease tightness and support recovery.

  • Muscle tension
  • Soft-tissue injury
  • Tendonitis

What it is

Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves delivered through a small handheld wand and a layer of gel on the skin. Unlike diagnostic ultrasound used for imaging, this version is meant to treat tissue, not take pictures. It is often used for muscle spasms, tendon irritation, and healing soft tissue.

How it works

As the wand moves over the area, sound energy converts to gentle heat deeper than a heating pad can reach. That warmth can increase circulation, loosen tight tissue, and make stretching or manual work more comfortable afterward. Your provider controls intensity and duration based on the condition being treated.

Benefits

  • Reaches deeper tissue than surface heat alone
  • Helps relax tight or spasming muscles
  • May speed recovery of strained soft tissue
  • Prepares tissue for stretching or manual therapy
  • Comfortable and non-invasive

After your treatment

Simple guidelines to help your body settle and recover.

  1. Wipe away remaining gel; the skin may feel warm briefly
  2. Follow with prescribed stretches while tissue is pliable
  3. Avoid icing the area right away unless instructed
  4. Do not overstretch or push through sharp pain
  5. Report any unusual skin irritation to your provider
