ART (Active Release Technique)
A hands-on method that treats tight muscles and nerves by combining pressure with specific movements.
- Overuse injuries
- Nerve irritation
- Athletes
- Repetitive strain
What it is
Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft-tissue treatment where your provider presses on a specific muscle, tendon, or nerve pathway while you actively move that body part. It is precise and interactive, you participate in each repetition. ART is often used when overuse has left tissue short, sticky, or irritated.
How it works
By shortening and lengthening the tissue under contact, ART helps separate adhesions and restore normal glide between layers of muscle and fascia. Your provider locates the restricted spot, holds tension, and coaches you through a short motion. Sessions are targeted rather than full-body massage.
Benefits
- Addresses muscle, tendon, and nerve entrapment issues
- Useful for repetitive-strain and overuse injuries
- Can restore smoother, less painful movement patterns
- Highly specific, treats the exact restricted tissue
- Works well alongside chiropractic adjustments
After your treatment
Simple guidelines to help your body settle and recover.
- Mild soreness is common for a day or two
- Perform any prescribed mobility drills the same day
- Avoid repeating the exact aggravating activity immediately
- Ice if advised; otherwise prefer gentle movement
- Note symptom changes to share at your next visit
